Basic Features
OpenCPN uses some basic settings or limitations.
Let's take a look at some of OpenCPN's basic features.
- Courses are always true, not magnetic .
- Distances are measured in Nautical Miles (meters for very short distances, less than a cable ~ 183 m).
- All distances and routes are calculated using Mercator Sailing. Great Circle Sailing is an option in route creating.
- Knots is used for speed. m/s is an option in displaying GRIB files
- With OpenCPN 3.2.2, only one instance of the program is allowed (for Windows). Use the portable option if more instances are needed.
- Do not edit to the opencpn.ini (opencpn.conf) file when OpenCPN is running.
