Hi all:

Most times, users (as me) would like to make annotations on the charts. i.e. Here South of Spain we have some protected areas not really reflected on published charts, Or the goverment changes some limits and restrictions ( as recently at "Cabo de Gata"). In that way it could be very interesting to be able to draw areas or make annotations to some charts. Nice if it could be possible to be transferred to the new associated chart when upgraded.

Thnaks.

I had the same issue already with unmarked fishfarms ...
I helped myself with adding waypoints and giving it a fishhatchery symbol ...

But to mark areas, drawing (and moving) simple lines would be helpful.

Another useful target for "drawing & moving lines on charts" could be :
I tacked upwind last week between islands. I had a long run on one bow, then tacked to the other side.
Before tacking back, I would have drawn a temporary line along (parallel to) the old course and move it to my current position, the line showing foreward.
Then you can relatively easy estimate if you make it around the next corner ...

Thanks Tom !!

One more thing... it should be nice if in addition to those areas you can draw and annotate, you could activate alarms if you enter those areas.

Annotations (I meant) plain text notes somewhere on the charts...maybe other methods can be considered...

Thanks All..!!

...but can't you just draw a route and use it as a simple line drawing? Include or add a mark wherever with a long name that describes the area. There's No limit to how much you can write in as a mark's name.. If it's something you need all the time, export the route=boundary and descriptive mark together as a gpx and reload it as a layer....

Well... i could.. yes of course... but it should be nice to have this capability in the software so you do not have to use (and mix) concepts to "patch". Routings are routings... and marks are marks... but should be nice to have some layer you can not easily move or modify you can annotate..draw.. etc.. and see toguether (or not) with the associated chart.. so when you change charts you can retrieve and compare notes...

...but then I would use a Mark's Link-to capability...I would link to a text file. The Mark's link will open the text file and it can can be edited, saved etc. Every Waypoint of a route also has this capability and their icons can be changed to one signifying they have Extra functions
Likewise a link can be made to a picture-drawer like Paint, the Gimp, whatever and a sketch can be made and saved.

You can Make a special Mark that has this link and drag it to wherever you want if it is "unlocked" so , in effect, you have a logbook handy wherever you are on the chart...
Of course, it follows that you need know where this file is and keep the link's computer path "correct" but that is not hard.

Hello Pat & jorge

My 2 demands have a quite similar approach :

FS#940 : suggestion to allow more customisation (pathname, links..)
FS#945  : suggestion for the creation of a new object (POI)

May we consider that Jorge is asking for a new object (similarities with a route but need to have a specific name), and, I am also asking for a new object (similarities to a single Waypoint).

Concerning the pathname remark, one solution could be to dedicate a directory for those type of object or to (like tides) allow the user to indicate vhere its object are saved.

Jorge, I seem to remmember there is a trick to remove arrows on routes but I can't remember what it is ! That would help make the drawing tool a drawing tool!

Serge... I agree with you as to Paths. Opcn is rigid and hard-coded for UserIcons, layers and it would be easier to browse to my Personal folders, especially with a "fresh" install of O...

As to a new object, well, it seems it can be solved by a semantics argument,(that few seem to agree with!):I keep Marks/POI separate from WPTS.WPTS are the markers on a route.("way-points" = "points along the way"? ) Yes, you CAN edit a WPT to include links and notes but it IS part of a route and goes with the rest of the route. On the other hand, a POI/Mark is standalone. If I make a route, I may make it pass close to a POI,but I do not include the POI in a route. In fact, I wish they'd change the dialogue title to Marks or POI and I may make this a request!
