You can choose between single mode and quilting, but in a discussion on how to apply PLY lines in the NGA project the need for a third mode was suggested. The background is that a lot of chart contains a valuable information in the form of diagrams and text.
PLY lines are normally drawn to exclude those areas from interfering with navigation. This sometimes makes it very difficult, if not impossible to read such info, as OpenCPN in single mode switches to a different chart as soon as a PLY line passes the center of the screen.
A Reading mode should allow the user to zoom in on any spot in the chart picture, even in the areas outside the picture. This would make it possible to read all the info on the chart. There is no need for any of the normal features, moving chart, ais etc. But it would not hurt either.
One way to implement this could be to reassign the PLY:s on the fly, to the outer rim of the chart-picture and reload the chart.
This task depends upon

Reason for closing:  Implemented
Additional comments about closing:  With the recent change to single chart mode, there is no longer a need for this request /Thomas

I agree. It's been mentioned in the forum as a request also. Could it be made possible that "Auto-selection" just didn't happen when charts are not quilting?

I support this idea!

To not fudge with the PLYs, how about a temporary, right-click "lock-to-this-chart" in the chartbar. Then the switch to another chart should be inhibited while panning the chart for information.

I third the motion. Another approach might be an additional right click chart bar option to isolate a chart which renders it the only one visible temporarily without a ply collar.
